What Is Botox?
BOTOX® is a purified onabotulinumtoxinA protein that works by blocking overactive nerve impulses that trigger excessive muscle contractions. The effect is temporary and lasts from approximately three to ten months, depending on the individual patient and indication. BOTOX® therapy should only be administered by a trained and qualified physician. BOTOX® is also approved for many clinical indications and is currently being investigated for many other cosmetic and clinical uses.
How Does Botox Work?
When BOTOX® is injected in small amounts into the appropriate muscle, it causes the muscle to relax and thus diminish or eliminate dynamic line or furrow. BOTOX®has been used for over a decade to treat ophthalmological disorders, and is fast becoming the chosen non-surgical treatment to reverse signs of aging. After treatment, a patient treated with BOTOX® can still frown and smile, but the expression wrinkles around the eyes and forehead are diminished when they do. Normal facial expression is unaffected. Correction with BOTOX® is very natural, and most patients treated feel that they have a more wide-eyed, rested and less angry look.
BOTOX® correction lasts on average approximately four to six months. After repeated injections the results may be even longer lasting.
BOTOX ® Treatment For Hyperhidrosis
One highly effective, FDA-approved treatment for severe underarm sweating, not adequately managed by topical agents, is BOTOX® (Botulinum Toxin Type A). BOTOX® injections help control severe underarm sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops. For more information about BOTOX® as a treatment for severe underarm sweating, go to BOTOXSevereSweating.com.
Treatment with BOTOX® is a relatively quick and straightforward procedure and results in a significant reduction in underarm sweating within four weeks of the first treatment. Results have been shown to be effective for up to six months.
